Black and white portrait of tattoo artist Marcus Hale
Tattoo Artist & Founder

Fifteen years in the chair, nine convention awards, and a waiting list that opens two months at a time.

Marcus founded Ashgrove in 2011 after apprenticing in three street shops. His work lives in bold traditional and Japanese-inspired large-scale pieces: heavy black outlines, saturated colour, and compositions built to read from across the room and age gracefully for decades.

He is also the studio's cover-up specialist. Scar tissue, faded names, old work you have outgrown — Marcus has turned all of it into pieces clients show off. Bring the problem to a consultation and he will tell you honestly what it can become.

Marcus turned a vague idea and a scar I hated into a half-sleeve I show off every chance I get. He drew it twice until it was perfect. — Joel J., half-sleeve client
